According to VentureBeat‘s Jeff Grubb — who recently leaked what appeared to be pre-alpha gameplay footage of the upcoming title — Skate 4 will be placing greater emphasis on player-generated content, no doubt learning from the success of both GTA Online‘s custom races and Halo‘s fan-favorite Forge mode.To drive this initiative, the highly-anticipated sequel will be offering fans a new game mode called “Free Skate,” which allows players to join the same server and build custom skateparks out of thin air. You’ll be free to add or take away elements like ramps in real-time and create the perfect skate arena for you and your friends.Free Skate aside, Skate 4 will also reportedly offer a whole range of other customization options where players will be encouraged to design new skins and artwork for skateboards and outfits for their characters, similar to the inventory of fan-made content found in the Forza series.Given that the game is still in its early stages of development, very little has been revealed by EA, so fans of the franchise should stay tuned for more updates to come.Elsewhere in gaming, 343 Industries has finally announced the launch window for Halo Infinite‘s co-op campaign mode.

Are you a fan of Skate and looking to get involved in the playtest? Here’s everything you need to know about signing up to EA’s Skate beta phase.EA’s Skate is among the most highly anticipated games for the future, with releases such as Hogwarts Legacy, Atomic Heart, and Resident Evil 4 all equally enticing gamers.Skate has a huge cult following, as the first three games were incredibly popular. The last Skate game was released over ten years ago, and you know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.Luckily, the free-to-play Skate reboot is in the works, and there’s even a way for fans to get involved in the game’s development through playtesting. So, for those interested in playing Skate’s beta, here’s how to sign up for the playtest. How to sign up for Skate’s playtestThe Skate reboot is yet to receive a release date, as the devs seem keen on making sure the game is ready through playtesting. The developers have been very transparent about the process, even providing community updates about the playtests and what stage of development the game is in. Players can become a “skate. insider” to get closer to the development process and even test the game out.Simply follow these steps in order to sign up for Skate’s playtesting:Visit the EA Skate playtest registration web page.Hit the “Sign in to EA playtesting” button.Sign in or sign up for EA’s playtesting service.Select the platforms you play games on the most.Hit the “Sign-up” button at the bottom of the page.Congrats! You are now a skate. insider and eligible for an invitation to the game’s playtesting. After these steps, keep an eye out for the email attached to your EA account for an invitation. You may also receive an email from EA requesting that you take a survey. Don’t miss this, as it will increase your chances of becoming a playtester, so fill it out and send it off as soon as you can.EA also claim that even if you aren’t selected for the next playtest, “there will be more opportunities in the future,” so stay alert. For more, check out some guides on various other games below:GoldenEye 007 | Atomic Heart | Hogwarts Legacy | Grand Theft Auto 6 | Starfield | The Elder Scrolls VI | Resident Evil 4 Remake | Star Wars Jedi: SurvivorImage Credits: EA

EA Opens Console Playtest Registrations for New Skate Installment Sign in to your DualShockers account Skate 4 (now called “skate.”) is the upcoming free-to-play, live service sequel to EA’s skateboarding series. We don’t know much of anything about the newest Skate game, but one thing is certain: not everyone is going to love the direction that the series has taken.Even for those who enjoy these kinds of games, it’s hard to imagine how EA will transform a notoriously difficult, simulationist skateboard series into a live service game.Either way, curious players can sign up for an early playtesting session, with console playtests opening now. The signups have been open for some time, but it seems like the developers are letting more players in as the game gets closer to release. Related 15 Best Skateboarding Games, Ranked Shredding the Gnar doesn't stop just because you head home from the skatepark! As of January 9, 2025, registrations are open for PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5.Be warned that this isn’t an open beta but a closed playtest. According to EA’s signup website, sharing “any videos, captures, screenshots or streaming of anything in the game” is strictly prohibited. That said, it seems like videos of the playtest are already being shared on the game’s YouTube channel, although here they take the form of exciting “best of” compilations rather than unedited game footage. In short, it’s hard to tell what Skate is going to be like without joining the playtest. Hopefully, there will be enough space for everyone, but even if it doesn’t, Skate will be released in Early Access in 2025. When Does Skate Come Out? We still don’t have a release date for Skate, although the game is scheduled to enter Early Access in 2025.Based on their very active official YouTube channel and popular social media accounts, the team behind Skate seems more than willing to share news of the game’s development. It’s quite telling, then, that even though it’s now 2025, we still don’t have a date for when Early Access will begin. We don’t even know if the game will come out on PC and consoles simultaneously. That might seem obvious, but if open Early Access was in any way close, we would probably know for sure. Chances are, Skate’s release is still some time away. Skate 4

| Published: Jan 18, 2010 03:40 pm This article is over 15 years old and may contain outdated information Activision’s Tony Hawk franchise was already in decline by the time the original Skate came out back in 2007, but EA Black Box’s analog stick control scheme and focus on realism accelerated Tony Hawk’s descent into obsolescence. EA is working on the second sequel to that game, Skate 3, and it’s due out for PS3 and 360 this May, less than a year and a half after the release of Skate 2. Back when EA announced Skate 3, they offered up a pre-order bonus: the Black Box Distribution Skate Park (it’s apparently a real place). Now we’ve got some video footage of the in-game location; check it out above! It looks pretty rad. (Yeah, I’m hip with that skater lingo!) You can head to the game’s official Web site for all the pre-order options available to you. Destructoid is supported by our audience.
