Siinä, missä vaikkapa uusimmassa Battlefieldissä kokemusta, saavutuksia ja uusia aseita pudotellaan vähän väliä, ja MAG:ssakin työstä palkitaan varusteparannuksin, joutuvat astronautit tyytymään yksinkertaiseen tasonnousuun, joka näkyy lähinnä arvonimenä.Toki varusteparannusten puuttumista voidaan perustella tasapainotuksella ja sillä, ettei Shattered Horizonissa ole alunperinkään kuin yksi ase, sveitsiläisen linkkuveitsen lailla myös tarkkuuskiväärinä ja kranaatinheittimenä toimiva rynnäkkökivääri. Pelillisesti yllättävän toimiva ratkaisu ei jätä hahmoihin juuri päivitysvaraa.Harmillinen juttu, mutta pelaajien koukuttamisen kannalta nykyään tuiki tärkeän metapelin puute aiheuttaa sen, että pelissä ei alkuinnostuksen jälkeen ole samanlaista imua kuin kilpailijoissaan.
