2025-04-12Be that your screen mesh is loose and shifting during printing. This can be caused by low screen tension, which occurs due to the constant pressure of the squeegee. To avoid this, you should check your screens with a tension meter before every printing job and re-tension or replace any screens with low tension.Another potential issue is that your substrate is moving during printing. To prevent this, check that your pallets are not loose before each run, and evaluate the adhesive you're using to keep substrates in place. Spray adhesives are easier to apply but may break down faster than water-based options. If you're printing on a heavier fabric like fleece, you may need a specialty adhesive.Additionally, your off-contact distance may need adjusting. This is the room necessary for the screen to snap up and away from your substrate. For lighter substrates like t-shirts, set your off-contact distance at 1/16 of an inch; for thicker substrates, you may need to increase it to 1/8 of an inch.Finally, issues with your stencil can also cause soft edges. For example, if your emulsion wasn't exposed properly, the edges of the stencil may weaken during washout or printing, leading to blurred edges in your final print. To avoid this, make sure your film positive is dark enough to block out light during exposure, and ensure the image is flush to the screen during exposure.Vector vs raster imagesWhen it comes to digital images, the two most common file types are raster and vector graphics.
